Disclosure: we make Outpaid, so weigh our opinion accordingly. This comparison is built from the public pages of each app, with the date they were read, and it says plainly where the others do more than Outpaid does. Most of the time, they do.
Short answer: there is no single best app. Pick by what you need. If you want budgets and recurring bills, choose Money Manager, Bluecoins or Cashew. If you want a long-established app with a very large user base, Monefy. If you want to log expenses and see where the money went, with no ads and nothing to set up, Outpaid.
What “offline” should mean
An offline expense tracker works without an internet connection and keeps your data on your phone. That is the minimum. It is worth checking three more things before you choose:
- What it collects. Google Play’s Data safety section lists what each app collects and shares.
- How you get your data out. Look for a backup file and an export you can open elsewhere. Part 4 of this series explains why.
- What it costs over time. Free, free with ads, a one-time purchase and a subscription are four different deals.
The comparison at a glance
Facts about the other apps were read from their US Google Play listings and official pages on 29 October 2026. Prices and features change, so open the links before you rely on them. Outpaid’s row comes from our own app.
| App | Ads | Price model | Budgets | Sync |
|---|---|---|---|---|

Outpaid
A log-only tracker. You record each expense, and it shows where the money went by day, week, month and year, with categories, subcategories and a filter across any of them. Your month can start on payday, and you can export to Excel and back up to a file.
- Strengths: no ads, no account, nothing collected, no subscription. Everything is on your phone and works offline. Backup and export stay open after the trial.
- Does less than the others: no budgets, no recurring entries, no income, no sync between phones, no app lock and no home-screen widget. It is Android only.
- Price: a 15-day free trial, then a one-time unlock. There is no free tier, which every other app here has.
Monefy
An established app with a very large user base. As read on 29 October 2026, its Google Play listing showed a 4.0 rating from 195,000 ratings and more than 10 million installs.
- Strengths: data on your device or your own Drive or Dropbox, budgets, a passcode and biometric lock, a home-screen widget, and income tracking.
- Watch for: recurring entries are a paid upgrade. Its in-app items ranged from $2.49 to $59.99, and its terms say Premium may be monthly, annual or one-time, so check what applies on Android before you pay. Its Data safety label says it may collect and share app activity, app information and device IDs.
Money Manager
A feature-rich app by Realbyte. Its listing showed a 4.6 rating from 468,000 ratings and more than 10 million installs.
- Strengths: per-category budgets, recurring entries, subcategories, a passcode lock, income and assets, and Excel file backup and restore.
- Watch for: the free version carries ads and is limited to 15 assets, and the paid version removes both. In-app items ranged from $2.49 to $20.99, and we did not find the Android upgrade price. Its Data safety label lists personal and financial information among the data it may collect, and activity and device IDs among what it may share. We could not confirm from its pages that it works fully offline, so check that if it matters to you.
Bluecoins
A deep, offline-first app. Its listing showed a 4.3 rating from 40,900 ratings and more than 1 million installs.
- Strengths: its FAQ says data lives on the device and the app works offline. Its Data safety label says no data is collected and none is shared. It has budgets, multi-currency, bill reminders and exports.
- Watch for: the free version shows ads. Premium is a one-time purchase according to the official page, which does not show the price. Play listed in-app items from $4.49 to $10.99. Cloud sync, cloud backup and some report exports are Premium.
Cashew
A free, open-source app. Its listing showed a 4.8 rating from 28,100 ratings and more than 500,000 installs, and its source is under the GPL-3.0 license.
- Strengths: data stays on the device, and its Data safety label says nothing is collected or shared. It has budgets, recurring entries with reminders, multi-currency with automatic exchange rates, optional sync, and a biometric lock.
- Watch for: sync needs a Google login, though it is optional. It has optional Pro tiers. On iPhone they were $1.49 a month, $11.99 a year and $19.99 for life, and Play’s in-app range of $1.49 to $19.99 matched. We could not confirm which features Pro adds.
How to choose
- You want budgets and recurring bills: Money Manager, Bluecoins or Cashew. Read part 2 of this series first if you are not sure you need them.
- You want it free: Cashew has no ads and an open-source code base. Monefy, Money Manager and Bluecoins have free versions, two of them with ads.
- You want sync across devices: Cashew, Monefy or Bluecoins Premium.
- You want the least data collected: compare the Data safety sections. Bluecoins and Cashew say they collect none, and Outpaid collects none by design.
- You want to log, look and nothing else: Outpaid. It has the smallest feature set here, and nothing to configure before the first expense. Part 1 shows the method it is built for.
How we checked
We read the US Google Play listing and the official pages of each app on 29 October 2026. We did not install, buy or sign in to any of them, so we describe what the pages say, not how the apps behave. Where a fact was not on a page, we say we did not find it. This is not every offline tracker, and smaller apps are worth a look too.
Questions people ask
What is the best offline expense tracker for Android?
It depends on what you need. For budgets and recurring bills, Money Manager, Bluecoins and Cashew are built for it. For a free, open-source option with optional sync, Cashew. For logging only, with no ads and nothing to set up, Outpaid.
Does offline mean private?
Not by itself. Offline means the app works without the internet. Privacy depends on what the app collects and shares, which every Google Play listing summarises in its Data safety section. Read it before you install.
Which offline expense trackers are free?
As read on 29 October 2026, Monefy, Money Manager, Bluecoins and Cashew all have a free version. Money Manager and Bluecoins show ads in it. Outpaid is the only app here with a trial instead of a free tier.
Do these apps need an account?
Outpaid needs none. Cashew's sync is optional and uses a Google login. For the others, check the current listing, because we did not confirm account rules for every app.
